The Waunakee Village Center is partnering with Wheels for Winners, the Waunakee Police Department and the Waunakee Neighborhood Connection to offer a free community bike rodeo and donation event!
The Bike Rodeo is designed to promote safe riding habits and skills for younger riders. Participants are typically elementary to Intermediate school age (5-12). Participants will ride their bike through a series of courses that help them to develop skills to avoid typical crashes as well as learning to watch their surroundings for traffic, other riders, road hazards etc. The Bike Rodeo is a great way for officers to interact in a positive way with the youth of our community.
Wheels for Winners trained staff will be available to inspect the bikes and offer simple fixes on site. Bicycle crashes can happen for many reasons and improper bike maintenance is one of those reasons. Simple things like a loose chain, tire and brake cable or even non-functioning brakes can be a major cause of a crash. These crashes can be prevented through simple maintenance.
Wheels for Winners will also be collecting gently used bikes. These bikes will be tuned up and used to support the mission of Wheels for Winners. They will also be partnering with the Waunakee Neighborhood Connection to collect bikes for Waunakee families that are in need of a dependable bike.
